Oasis – Graphic Album Covers

Art Direction, Graphic Design

I decided to make a tribute to one of my favorite bands.

This personal project is a series of album covers inspired in one of my favourite bands, Oasis. There are seven covers in total and each one has an element that was present in the original cover. I used a modern graphic style, representing these with simple shapes and colors.

Process

First of all, I put together all the original covers to analyse each of them, so I’ve made a color palette based on the photographs of the scenes. After that, I looked at the scenario something that could be represented in a simple and direct way. For example, in the first cover (“Definitely Maybe”) the element that I chose to use was the window that has an octagon shape.

The typeface that I chose to create the covers was the famous Helvetica, widely used in the 50s and 60s by Swiss designers, it was developed in 1957 by Swiss typeface designer Max Miedinger with input from Eduard Hoffmann. Helvetica gives a nice and clean atmosphere, combining perfectly with the cover’s shapes.

"What a life it would be if you would come to mine for tea, I'll pick you up at half past three, we'll have lasagne. I'll treat you like a queen, I'll give you strawberries and cream then your friends will all go green for my lasagne. These could be the best days of our lives"
